This week, CCS’ Midlands region of Universal Care Services has excelled in showcasing the pivotal role our care teams play through the #GladtoCare campaign. The week-long celebration featured daily themes: Motivation Monday, Tasty Tuesday, Wellbeing Wednesday, Thankful Thursday, and Feel Good Friday. These themes were designed to highlight the diverse and indispensable contributions of our caregivers, aiming to inspire and inform both current and prospective care professionals.
Motivation Monday: Inspiring Commitment
Motivation Monday kicked off the week with an emphasis on what drives our caregivers to excel in their roles. Angela, who has been a dedicated carer at Universal Care Services Ipswich since 2021, shared a compelling piece of advice for those considering a career in care: “Treat them how you would like your family to be treated.” Her words reflect the core values of empathy and respect that underpin our services. According to a 2020 study by Skills for Care, 82% of care workers reported that job satisfaction stems from making a difference in people’s lives, which underscores the motivational aspects Angela highlighted.
Tasty Tuesday: Culinary Care
The second day, Tasty Tuesday, focused on the significant role nutrition plays in the wellbeing of those we care for. Our teams engaged in interactive cooking sessions and shared nutritious recipes tailored to the dietary needs of our clients. Data from the Malnutrition Task Force indicates that 1 in 10 older people in the UK are at risk of malnutrition, making the role of our care teams in providing balanced meals critically important.
Wellbeing Wednesday: Holistic Health
Wellbeing Wednesday was dedicated to the mental and physical health of both caregivers and clients. Activities included mindfulness sessions, physical exercises, and mental health workshops. Emma, an office staff member who previously worked as a carer, emphasized the importance of holistic care: “To make sure you are supporting the individuals we look after with love and care. Treat them as you would want a family member to be treated. It is a very rewarding job.” The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) supports this approach, noting that holistic care significantly enhances the quality of life for individuals receiving care.
Thankful Thursday: Recognizing Excellence
On Thankful Thursday, we took the time to express our gratitude to the caregivers whose dedication often goes unrecognized. A 2019 survey by Healthwatch England revealed that 70% of people feel that care workers deserve more acknowledgment for their contributions. Through heartfelt messages and small tokens of appreciation, we aimed to highlight the invaluable work our teams do daily.
Feel Good Friday: Celebrating Success
Feel Good Friday rounded off the week with celebrations of success stories and achievements within our care teams. The positive impact of our caregivers on clients’ lives was showcased through testimonials and success stories, reinforcing the rewarding nature of a career in care. According to the Care Quality Commission, services with highly engaged staff are more likely to receive outstanding ratings, further validating the importance of such initiatives.
